Collection contains materials collected by and about the John Varah Long family, his descendants, and their families. The majority the collection is from the Hance and Watson families. Material types include: photographs, negatives, scrapbooks, personal papers, correspondence, paintings, legal documents, deeds, mining documents, blueprints, genealogical records, stock certificates, bills, receipts, checks, report cards, certificates, and other miscellaneous items.

Biographical/Historical note
Steve Zolman's background is in direct sales and he has been involved in sales management for various organizations. From January 1998 until August 1998, Mr. Zolman studied business management at Ricks College and continued his studies until April 1999 at Salt Lake Community College. Beginning in April 1999, he managed a sales office for Safe Home Security, Inc. in Salt Lake City, Utah. In April 2001, Mr. Zolman founded Pinnacle Security, Inc. John Varah Long was born on 28 September 1826, the son of John Long and Hannah Marie Scholey, at Wickersburgh, Yorkshire, England. He was an Elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he became a personal clerk for Brigham Young, the second president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Long was excommunicated from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 7 June 1866. On 14 April 1869 he was found dead in an irrigation ditch near the corner of North West Temple Street. There is much controversy surrounding the manner and cause of his death.
