Biographical/Historical note
The Agency for Campus Ministry in Utah began in 1936 at the initiative of Baptist and Episcopal leaders working at the University of Utah. Through the years, it has expanded to include every college and university campus throughout the State of Utah. The goals of creating the Campus Ministry include: 1. To be an agency through which the participating Christian communions will plan, administer, and support the ministry at colleges and universities in the State of Utah. 2. To proclaim the Christian faith among students, faculty, administrators, and staff in these institutions, stimulating them with regard to their responsibility under God in political, economic, scientific and social matters. 3. To help make available to the Churches and to higher education the resources of each other; to increase the sensitivity of the Churches to higher education's role in society; and to express publicaly the Churches concerns in higher education. 4. To strive toward the renewal and unity of the Church. The Agency has gone through several name changes as follows: 1961-1969, Utah Foundation for Protestant Campus Ministries, Inc.; 1970-1983, Utah Commission for Ministry in Higher Education, Inc.; 1984-1991, Utah Campus Ministry, Inc.; 1992-1996, Higher Education Work Group of Shared Ministry in Utah, Inc.; 1997-Present, Agency for Campus Ministry in Utah, Inc.
